Remember to take your compost out...

The little things in life excite me! Today no glam food shots. Right now I'm getting my kicks by further reducing the amount of food trash put into our garbage can. As I mentioned previously, we compost and also began vermicomposting in the last year as well. I thought we were doing pretty good! Until this Spring when I started helping O's school compost at lunchtime...

Menu for the Week of July 16, 2012

Several salads, using garden goodies, take center stage this week. Two grilled entrees, prepared with local meat, balance the equation and make for another week of can't wait to eat pleasures!

Garlic Scape Pesto

Garlic is eaten daily in our house, so we thought it was high time we grew our own. Last Fall we planted 60 garlic bulbs and are anxious for our harvest later this summer. But I never knew it was a two-for-one crop! We are currently enjoying the scapes.

Garden Salad

Is salad not something your kids are drawn to.. check out this recipe as a great way to get them to eat their greens. Last week we enjoyed Lamb Skewers with an Israeli Couscous salad. The salad then became a base for salad two days later with garden collections on the side.

Weekly Menu for the week of June 25, 2012

Easy but tasty meals is the theme this week!

Tomatilla and Chicken Enchiladas

The other day I posted the following question to my blog and a food group I'm in:

What is your favorite, make ahead meal? Need something in between camp and 5:30 soccer Thursday. Some type of salad came to mind, but Skoogie said, "Not salad again." Would love ideas!!

Taco fixings and quesadillas were mentioned. The kids often eat quesadillas for lunch and we just had tacos but the posts triggered an idea...

I love the eating journey that I’m on, new pieces of information tie together bits and pieces and open new doors.

Soynut Snack

With Skoogie's peanut allergy, and a recommendation to avoid tree nuts, she misses out on the crunch of nuts. This week we spotted some soy nuts in the bulk aisle and have been mixing them with raisins...a new found snack that she's been sharing with her babies as well. Photo taken by Skoogie.
